Bowling Green Players In MAIS All-Star Game

Three Bowling Green School baseball players were honored recently when they were selected to play in the MAIS All-Star baseball game. Seniors Cameron Bell, Timmy Ruffino and Casey Burge were selected to participate in the event along with other players in the league who were named All-Stars.

The three Bowling Green players participated in the Class AAA and Class AAAA game with another contest held for Class A and Class AA players.

A banquet was held last Monday at the Brandon Civic Center where the All-Stars were recognized and awarded with a certificate and challenge coin and enjoyed dinner with their families.

The following day, the nine inning All-Star game was held at Smith-Willis-Stadium in Jackson, Mississippi. Players were divided via a draft where each head coach selected their teams. All three Bowling Green players were selected by Head Coach Justin Ainsworth of Wayne Academy to play on the "Blue Team". The team was assisted by Coach Wes Theriot of Central Private School.

Bowling Green and Wayne Academy were the only schools in the MAIS to have three All-Stars selected (the maximum allowed for each school per MAIS rules).

Ruffino was the starting pitcher for the Blue Team and also played first base. Bell played all three outfield positions while Burge played second and third base, shortstop and was also used as an outfielder.

The three All-Stars helped lead the Buccaneers to a 21-9 record while reaching the second round of the MAIS Class AAA state playoffs.

Bowling Green is led by second-year head coach Justin Garcia who was in Jackson to support his players at the recent All-Star game.
