Franklinton defeats Pine in Jamboree actionBy DAMON SMITH,
The Franklinton Demons football team defeated the Pine Raiders in the Washington Parish Jamboree held at Bogalusa 15-12, as they scored first and never trailed in the game, which consisted of two fifteen minute halves.
The Demons had the ball first and went on a nice 70 yard drive that was capped off with a Jasper Lasalle pass to Spencer Lambert from five yards out. After the Raiders were off sides on the extra point the Demons elected to go for the two point conversion and Quaran Warren went in successfully to put the Demons up 8-0 with 9:34 left in the first half.
Pine answered on their initial drive as they ended a 62 yard drive when Adrainuen Johnson went in from three yards out. The two point conversion was stopped by the Demons to retain an 8-6 lead.
The teams traded punts for the rest of the first half although Pine threatened as they took over in Demons territory after a punt but penalties stalled them out.
In the second half the teams traded punts again before another poor punt by the Demons gave the Raiders the ball at the Demons 20. The Raiders managed a first down to have the ball first and goal before the Demon defense made a stand and hold the Raiders out of the endzone and take over on downs at their own 19.
The Demons faced a critical third and 19 when Lasalle found Caleb Brown open on the left sideline for 23 yards and a first down to keep the drive alive. Warren capped off the drive with a six yard touchdown run up the middle. Keaton Catrett added the extra point for a 15-6 lead with 4:01 left in the game.
The Raiders got an excellent return on the ensuing kickoff and scored on the drive as Johnson scored from a yard out with 1:01 left in the game. The two point conversion was no good and the score stood at 15-12.
The Raiders onside kick attempt was covered by the Demons and they knelt on the ball to run out the remaining time and preserve the victory.
Jasper Lasalle led the Demons in stats with 85 yards passing on 8 completions of 14 attempts and a touchdown while rushing for 31 yards on three attempts. Quaran Warren rushed for 69 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries, Cornelius Laurant rushed for 13 on three attempts and De'Airreous Magee rushed for 12 on two carries. Warren caught a pass for 6 yards, Laurant 2 for 18, Spencer Lambert 2 for 17, Kadarious Mark 2 for 21 and Caleb Brown 1 for 23. Keaton Catrett was 1 of 1 on extra point attempts.
The Demons will travel to Covington to take on the 5A Lions this Friday. The Lions got by the Demons 19-13 last season in the home opener for the Demons.
The Raiders will host the 3A Sumner Cowboys, a team they haven't played in several years.
