After several months of delays, a new high school football season has finally been approved.
Today (Wednesday) the Louisiana High School Athletic Association announed that the revised football season will start the weekend of October 1-3. Originally, the target date had been October 8-10. Teams can begin contact practice tomorrow (Thursday).
Teams will still play eight regular season games. In addition, there will be traditional playoff brackets at the end of the season. There had been some questions about the championships in each division, but LHSAA cleared that up with the announcement today that the playoffs will in fact be held.
This is great news for the public high school players and coaches of Washington Parish, who had been fearing the worst. In addition, it is good news for the athletic budgets of the schools, because admission fees at the games helps support the football programs.
Today's announcement does not affect Bowling Green, which is not a member of LHSAA. Bowling Green is already playing its 2020 football schedule. Only the public high schools in the parish are governed by LHSAA.
Additional details on the upcoming season will be posted here at era-leader.com and in the next edition of The Era-Leader. Look for our annual football edition, coming your way on September 30!
