It's homecoming week at Franklinton High and Pine High!
Franklinton High School's annual Homecoming parade will roll on Friday, October 16 at 1:30 pm. It will begin at Franklinton Junior HIgh School and proceed south down Main Street to Washington Street at the Courthouse and WP Sheriff's Office. From there it will turn at 10th Avenue and make its way back to Franklinton Junior High to disband.
The parade will feature the FHS Demons, the FHS Demon Regiment and support groups, the 2020 Homecoming Court and the MCJROTC along with various campus organizations as well as the Franklinton Junior High support groups.
Keeping with FHS homecoming tradition, alumnus and longtime educator Mrs. Ella Rose McCant Bickham will serve as Grand Marshal. Ella Rose McCant Bickham is a lifelong resident of Franklinton and a 1973 graduate of Franklinton High School. She graduated from Southeastern Louisiana University with a Bachelors and Masters degree in Elementary Education. She and husband Jerry (FHS '72) have four children: Jermaine, Veronica, Candace and Jyra, all graduates of FHS. They are also the proud grandparents of eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Ella Rose is an active member of Winan United Methodist Church in Franklinton. Ella Rose worked for 37 years in the Washington Parish School System as a teacher and literacy coach at Franklinton Elementary School. During her tenure at FES, she served as the supervisor of many student teachers and as a faculty coordinator. Since retiring, Ella Rose has been an active member of the Louisiana and Washington Parish Retired Teachers Association. She has continued to support Washington Parish Schools wherever possible from judging the Young Authors Contest to participating in Student of the Year judging at schools across the parish.
Ella Rose also stays involved in civic activities in Washington Parish as a member of the Kiwanis Club of Franklinton, the Franklinton Planning and Zoning Commission, and the Washington Parish Tourism Commission. She also serves as a volunteer with the Help Center of Churches.
Principal Renee Burris invites everyone to line the streets of Franklinton to honor Grand Marshal Ella Rose Bickham and to cheer on the Demons and FHS students. Mrs. Bickham will be honored prior to the game at 6:30 along with the lighting of the memorial candle by the families of the late Dr. James Stafford and the late Nathan Polk. The Demons will then play the Jewel Sumner Cowboys 7:00.
PINE HIGH: The Homecoming Presentation and Crowning of the Queen at Pine High School will be Thursday Oct. 15 at 6:00. Tickets will be sold at the gate. The Homecoming Game will be Friday night October 16. Kickoff is at 7:00 and you must purchase a pre-sale ticket from school in advance for the game. The Homecoming Parade will be held on October 19th at 5:30. Because of the COVID-19 situation, a photo of the court was not available. Once the queen is announced a photo of the queen with the court will be published in The Era-Leader
