Jay Adair drops out of race for judge

Assistant District Attorney Jay Adair unexpectedly dropped out of the race for District Judge late last week. He had been expected to file his candidacy this week for the Division F judgeship of the 22nd Judicial District. Adair announced earlier this year that he would seek the judgeship, and until last week he had been campaigning heavily in both Washington and St. Tammany Parishes. Adair, a Mandeville resident, ran for judge in 2017, losing to William H. Burris of Franklinton. In a brief statement late last week, Adair said he was withdrawing for personal family reasons, and asked people to respect his family’s privacy. There will be no shortage of candidates for the Division F judgeship. Four other candidates had filed for the seat as of close of business Tuesday. It is currently held by longtime Judge Martin Coady, who is retiring.
