Pine wins, FHS falls, in 1st round playoff action

And then there was one.

Pine became the only football team in Washington Parish to advance to the second round of the state playoffs when the Raiders convincingly defeated Port Barre, 54-29, in the first round Friday night.

The parish's other playoff team, Franklinton, fell to Carver 34-23 to end the season for the Demons with a 6-5 record.

Pine fell behind 7-0 in the first part of the first quarter, but from then on the Raider's offense was mostly on target, leading 28-14 at halftime and then outscoring Port Barre 26-15 to run to the final 54-29 score.

The Raiders will take on Avoyelles this Friday night in a Class 2A second round game.
