Former Franklinton Mayor Wayne Fleming died Tuesday afternoon in Arizona following a long battle with an aggressive form of cancer. He was 73.
Fleming and his wife, Jennifer, had temporarily relocated to Arizona to be near a cancer treatment facility earlier this year. He had been showing improvement and was hopeful of returning home to Franklinton, but he suffered a medical relapse recently and did not recover.
Fleming was a longtime alderman in Franklinton who then advanced to the mayor's office. He was among the best-known citizens of Franklinton and news of his passing spread through the town rapidly.
