4 young vandals add insult to injury, strike Mile Branch Settlement

Two weeks ago, historic Mile Branch Settlement on the Fairgrounds suffered plenty of damage because of falling trees in a major storm.

Now, adding insult to injury, 4 young vandals struck at Mile Branch this past Saturday, creating more problems for the volunteers who were already working to recover from the storm damage.

The vandals knocked doors off their hinges, sprayed a fire extinguisher on walls and floors, ruined an antique doll by ripping its head off, and in general created a senseless mess for volunteers to clean up.

The vandalism left Fair officials and Mile Branch volunteers scratching their heads. What were the vandals possibly thinking? Mile Branch Settlement is a testament to the inspiration and hard work of countless people with the singular goal of creating something highly worthwhile for the parish. And then thoughtless idiotic vandals come forward and demonstrate their brainpower with such heroic actions as beheading an antique doll or smashing open a historic door.

The four young vandals, all juveniles, were turned in to the Sheriff's Office by their parents. Three of the four made statements about the vandalism. The fourth did not, based on advice from his attorney. All four were charged with the vandalism and released into the custody of their parents. They will next go before the juvenile court judge.
