Sheriff Randy Seal has ordered a 9 p.m.-5 a.m curfew for all of Washington Parish, and it is now in effect. The curfew was enacted because of the Coronavirus situation.

UPDATE: Gov. Edwards has extended the stay-at-home order through the month of April, to include school closures. A decision will be made close to the end of the month as to whether the order will bne extended again.
Joandra Dawson, 20, a resident of Highway 21 in Angie, Louisiana, is in the Washington Parish Jail charged with the murder of 17 year old Ja’Quarrius Taylor on January 12. Dawson’s bond has been set at $800,000.
For the foreseeable future, the Washington Parish Jail is closed to all visitors because of the Coronavirus outbreak.

A Franklinton-area husband and wife were killed last week on Interstate 20 in Mississippi when an 18-wheeler ran into their vehicle. Triston McCain Scott, 35, and Calvin Lee Scott, 40, leave behind five children. Triston was a Franklinton High graduate, while Calvin was originally from Georgia.
A quiet morning in downtown Franklinton was interrupted last Friday when police officers from five different jurisdictions chased a car along Washington Street in front of the courthouse. The pursuit then turned down Cleveland Street and came to an end when the car ran into a ditch near the corner of Dewey and Cleveland.

The MAIS devastated Bowling Green players and coaches last week with a ruling that the Bucs must forfeit their six football victories this season.
The ruling comes as a result of a complaint to MAIS that Bowling Green was using two ineligible players in all of its games thus far in the 2019 season.
John Bel Edwards (pictured) narrowly lost in Washington Parish and narrowly won statewide as he was re-elected Saturday to a second term as Louisiana’s governor. Edwards, a Democrat from Amite, lost the parish to Republican Eddie Rispone by a 52-48% margin. He won statewide by an even closer margin: 51-49%.
District Attorney Warren Montgomery reports that a Washington Parish grand jury indicted Logan W. Jarrell, 26, of Franklinton, last Thursday on five counts of sex crimes involving victims under the age of 13.
The Washington Parish School Board has selected a veteran of the school system to become the new superintendent of schools.
Frances Varnado, former principal of Enon Elementary, will succeed Darrell Fairburn, who is retiring.
