Sheriff Randy Seal has ordered a 9 p.m.-5 a.m curfew for all of Washington Parish, and it is now in effect. The curfew was enacted because of the Coronavirus situation.

UPDATE: Gov. Edwards has extended the stay-at-home order through the month of April, to include school closures. A decision will be made close to the end of the month as to whether the order will bne extended again.
Joandra Dawson, 20, a resident of Highway 21 in Angie, Louisiana, is in the Washington Parish Jail charged with the murder of 17 year old Ja’Quarrius Taylor on January 12. Dawson’s bond has been set at $800,000.
For the foreseeable future, the Washington Parish Jail is closed to all visitors because of the Coronavirus outbreak.
It’s this simple: If you wash your hands correctly, you’ll lower your chances of getting COVID-19.
With the October 12 primary election getting closer, candidates for the legislative seats in Washington Parish have been campaigning hard.
The District 12 state Senate seat covers all of Washington Parish, as well as parts of St. Tammany and Tangipahoa parishes.

Following an overwhelming vote margin in his native parish on October 12 that helped propel him into a runoff election for the State Supreme Court, Judge Will Crain said he is profoundly grateful to Washington Parish.
Elisio Carbajal Perez, 35, a resident of C.E. Stafford Road near Franklinton, was arrested by the Washington Parish Sheriff's Office for sexual crimes against a victim under the age of twelve. He remains in jail no bond. Perez has been in the Washington Parish Jail previously, charged with aggravated assault and resisting an officer.
District Attorney Warren Montgomery reports that a Washington Parish grand jury indicted Logan W. Jarrell, 26, of Franklinton, last Thursday on five counts of sex crimes involving victims under the age of 13.
The Washington Parish School Board has selected a veteran of the school system to become the new superintendent of schools.
Frances Varnado, former principal of Enon Elementary, will succeed Darrell Fairburn, who is retiring.

Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser and Senator Beth Mizell of Franklinton will host a town hall meeting to discuss upcoming and proposed improvements to Bogue Chitto State Park. The public is invited to attend the meeting on Tuesday, March 3, at 6 p.m. in the park’s meeting room.
