Editorial: The most important blow is the loss of 58 lives in Washington Parish

The announcement this week that the 2020 Washington Parish Fair has been cancelled was yet another blow delivered by COVID-19.

But the biggest and most important blow of all, of course, is that the virus has caused 58 deaths in Washington Parish. Everything else pales as an inconvenience compared to that.

Edwards extends facemask mandate until at least August 28; 58 deaths in Washington Parish

UPDATED, TUESDAY AUGUST 4

Governor John Bel Edwards announced Tuesday that his order mandating face masks has been extended until at least August 28.

Louisiana hasn’t advance far enough in its fight against Coronavirus and so it must remain in Phase 2, the governor said.

Shots fired, man arrested

On Wednesday, Franklinton Police Officers responded to a call of shots being fired in the 2100 block of Williams Street.

Upon arrival, Delarius Jenkins aka "Hamburger" was found in the driver's seat of his vehicle, slumped over the steering wheel.



Franklinton Council hears from trash company about service problems

The Mayor and Board of Aldermen held their regularly scheduled meeting last Tuesday in the Chambers of Franklinton Town Hall.

The Town's CPA, Minda B. Raybourn, presented the 2019 audit report. Income sources for all departments totaled $8,130,564 with expenditures of $6,554,120 for a change in net position of $1,576,444.
