The Pine Lady Raiders won an exciting overtime game Thursday night to move into Monday's second round. Pine defeated Port Allen 34-33 in overtime. Now the Lady Raiders will travel to Amite for second round action at 6 p.m.this coming Monday (February 24.) Go Lady Raiders! Pine fans, get over to Amite Monday evening!

Late in the evening of February 11, Washington Parish Patrol Deputy John O’Hern responded to a report of a home invasion in a rural area south of Bogalusa. Upon arriving at the scene, Deputy O’Hern learned that the female occupant of the home was startled by someone kicking in the front door.
The Fred’s store in the Riverside Shopping Center has been busy recently, as shoppers take advantage of “going-out-of-business” bargains.

Both the Pine Raiders and the Franklinton Demons have made it into the state football playoffs. Both teams will open playoff action with home games this Friday night. Pine will host Port Barre. Pine hold a lofty #7 seed in the Class 2A playoffs while Port Barre is a #26 seed. Franklinton will host Carver.
Three Bowling Green School baseball players were honored recently when they were selected to play in the MAIS All-Star baseball game. Seniors Cameron Bell, Timmy Ruffino and Casey Burge were selected to participate in the event along with other players in the league who were named All-Stars.

The Washington Parish School Board has selected a veteran of the school system to become the new superintendent of schools.
Frances Varnado, former principal of Enon Elementary, will succeed Darrell Fairburn, who is retiring.
Otha Michael Williams, 54, a resident of West Stateline Road in northern Washington Parish, was arrested on February 4 and placed in the Washington Parish Jail where he remains with bond set at $750,000. Williams is charged with three counts of aggravated rape, one count of sexual battery and one count of indecent behavior with juveniles.
