Numerous Washington Parish residents are expected to be present next Wednesday evening in Mandeville when Judge Will Crain is sworn in as a justice on the Louisiana Supreme Court.
Crain will become the first state Supreme Court justice from Washington Parish.
The 2019 Franklinton Christmas Festival got off to a rousing start last Saturday evening, begining with Christmas songs being sung in front of the Courthouse by different local groups. (See photos in this week's edition of The Era-Leader.)
The festival resumes this weekend, with activities on both Saturday and Sunday.

The MAIS devastated Bowling Green players and coaches last week with a ruling that the Bucs must forfeit their six football victories this season.
The ruling comes as a result of a complaint to MAIS that Bowling Green was using two ineligible players in all of its games thus far in the 2019 season.

Although filing for the 2019 election doesn’t take place until August, numerous candidates in Washington Parish are already engaged in campaign activities. The primary election is October 12, and with a heated governor’s race on the ballot some elections officials are hoping for plenty of interest (and voting) by citizens this fall.
The record breaking 5th ranked Lady Demons Softball team was recently recognized for its achievements at the Lady Demons Softball Banquet. The entire starting nine were voted onto the All District team. Aleigha Fussell, a workhorse for the team, had an incredible season as the team’s pitcher and was named District MVP.

Elisio Carbajal Perez, 35, a resident of C.E. Stafford Road near Franklinton, was arrested by the Washington Parish Sheriff's Office for sexual crimes against a victim under the age of twelve. He remains in jail no bond. Perez has been in the Washington Parish Jail previously, charged with aggravated assault and resisting an officer.
