The Franklinton Junior High Lady Falcons softball team heads into the season with a strong mix of experience, youth, and optimism as first-year head coach Lester Jenkins takes the reins.
This year's roster features 22 players, highlighted by solid balance across grade levels with 10 eighth graders, 10 seventh graders, and 2 sixth graders. That depth should serve the Lady Falcons well as they navigate a challenging early schedule.
Returning from last season are Gabby Anderson, Parker Magee, Raylinn Hines, Aubree Hardin, Jailee Roberts, and Kendal Breaux, providing valuable experience and leadership on and off the field. Their presence, combined with a talented group of newcomers, has already created healthy competition and energy within the program.
The infield looks to be a major strength for FJHS this season. With the additions of Arabella Gay (7th), Gracie Polkey (8th), Avery Thompson (7th), Isabella Walls (8th), and Christine Hampton (8th), the Lady Falcons expect consistent defense and improved execution around the diamond.
Pitching duties will be led by Arabella Gay, Parker Magee, and Ava Walker (7th), with several other players ready to step into the circle as needed. Behind the plate, Gabby Anderson and Kati Contanza will anchor the catcher's position, providing stability and leadership to the pitching staff.
While the roster is filled with upperclassmen, the future is also bright. Sixth graders Annabelle Venable and Charlee Chance are expected to play key roles and gain valuable experience as the season progresses.
The Lady Falcons won't have long to see where they stand, as they open the season with a demanding stretch of games-two matchups against Walker, followed by contests against Slidell and Madisonville over the next two weeks.
With a deep roster, a solid defensive foundation, and fresh leadership under Coach Jenkins, the Franklinton Junior High Lady Falcons are poised for an exciting season. Fans won't have to wait long to see what this team is capable of as they step onto the field ready to compete.
