5th District Congresswoman Julia Letlow is not running for re-election, seeking instead to become Louisiana’s next U.S. Senator.
Washington Parish is in the 5th District. The far-flung District stretches halfway across Louisiana.
Nine candidates filed to become Letlow’s replacement. In the November 3 election, Republican voters will choose one candidate among the six Republicans seeking to be elected to Congress. Democrats will choose one candidate from the three Democrats running for Congress.
Among the candidates filing for the Congressional race is Austin Magee of Washington Parish.
The top Democrat and the top Republican will then meet in the December 12 run-off.
