ADAPT, Inc. is proud to announce the successful completion of its Youth Art CalendarContest, a parish-wide initiative designed to increase awareness of alcohol-related issues and encourage healthy, drug-free choices among young people.
This prevention project was made possible through funding from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) as part of its national Communities Talk to Prevent Alcohol and Other Drug Misuse Campaign.
The contest invited students in grades K–12 throughout Washington Parish to submit original artwork focused on prevention themes, positive decision-making, and community wellness. The response was overwhelming, with more than 250 entries received from youth across the parish.
From these submissions, 16 winning pieces were selected to be featured in ADAPT’s annual prevention calendar. The calendar will serve as a year-round resource to promote conversations about underage drinking prevention and substance misuse awareness in homes, schools, and community settings.
“This project provided youth with a creative voice in prevention,” said Rusty Fornea, Executive Director of ADAPT, Inc. “The artwork reflects the talent of our students and the importance of empowering young people to lead healthy, substance-free lives.”
To recognize the winning students, ADAPT hosted a special luncheon attended by the student artists, their parents or guardians, art teachers, and school principals. ADAPT, Inc. extends sincere appreciation to all students, educators, families, and community partners who contributed to the success of this initiative. Plans are already underway to continue the Youth Art Calendar Contest annually as part of ADAPT’s commitment to preventing underage drinking and substance misuse in Washington Parish.
