The LSU AgCenter Cooperative Extension Service is accepting applications for its 2027 Extension Internship Program. The program is entering its third year, and plans are to place 30 interns across the state next summer to work with Extension agents and faculty.
College students who are rising juniors, seniors or grad students and are enrolled in agriculture and natural resources, nutrition, family and consumer sciences, Extension education or a related field are encouraged to apply.
The goal of the internship is to prepare participants for careers in agriculture and Extension.
“The Extension Internship Program provides students with a unique, hands-on opportunity to explore careers in Extension and outreach,” Tara Smith, LSU AgCenter executive associate vice chancellor and director of the Louisiana Cooperative Extension Service, said. “Through direct engagement with agents, faculty and the stakeholders we serve, interns gain a deeper understanding of the vital role Extension plays in strengthening communities and improving quality of life.”
Interns must apply and go through an interview process. They will complete a project, report and video highlighting their experience. They also may work with their college adviser to potentially receive college credit for the internship. Interns will receive $15 an hour and will work for 10-12 weeks.
Taylor Stubblefield, a senior at LSU, participated in the internship program this past summer.
“This program has strengthened my professional growth by allowing me to do work similar to my career by giving me opportunities to teach and develop educational curriculum,” Stubblefield said. “Doing these activities have then strengthened my communication, leadership and even program development. Every day I learned something new to better myself as an educator.”
