Voters in Washington Parish followed the statewide trend Saturday in voting against all four of the proposed constitutional amendments on the ballot. The vote on all four of the amendments in Washington Parish was about 60% for, 40% against.
Statewide, the "no" vote was slightly higher on all four, about 65%.
Gov. Jeff Landry, who had urged the passage of all four constitutional amendments, expressed regret at the outcome but promised to continue working for eventual passage of the constitutional amendments.
Also in voting on Saturday, Amanda Dillon was easily elected to the District 8 seat on the Washington Parish School Board. The special election for the seat was required following the death last October of school board member Frankie Crosby. Ms Dillon received 517 votes (81%) in her victory and she will be sworn in at the next meeting of the Washington Parish School Board. Her opponent in Saturday's election, Alainna Lindsey-Holmes, collected 125 votes (19%).
The District 8 seat had been temporarily filled by Frankie Crosby's widow, Tricia Crosby, who did not choose to run in the special election.
