*Summer vacation for students and school personnel begins at the end of this week for many. Visits to grandparents, amusement parks, beaches and other places will take place. When our grandchildren were younger a significant time was spent with us (grandparents) in the country. This was always a time of exploration and learning to do things the old-fashioned way, from scratch. We were considered to be “old school”. One particular memory that comes to mind was the day I did laundry. I had in mind to teach my two youngest grandchildren (ages 4 and 7 at the time) how to hang clothes to dry on the clothesline instead of using the dryer. There were looks of surprise, confusion and disbelief on their faces, when a basket of wet clothes was placed on the ground before them. We had to teach them how to open & release a clothespin (this was hilarious). Though our two grands struggled to hold the clothes on the line while putting the clothespin on, we eventually got the basket of laundry on the line, while it was still daylight :). These two are presently 15 & 18 and haven’t used a clothesline since to my knowledge. I now look forward to sharing some of this good ol fashion knowledge with my great nieces and nephews, when they visit during the Summer.
