Hello Everyone, I hope you all are doing well! I hope you find my writings about our community both informative and encouraging. I certainly enjoy sharing with you all each week. Let me begin this week by sharing that the Rayburn Correctional Center had six new cadets to graduate on July 10th. Congratulations are extended to Angela Galloway, Bianca Goddard, Marcus Harry, Da’Marion Newkirk, Breanna Riley, and Jacob Stogner. Thank you all for deciding to serve your community.

*On Sunday Pastor Robert Johnson’s sermon was entitled: Set Apart by the Holy Spirit (Acts 13:2-3 / Psalm 32:8 / Isaiah 6:8). The Pastor reminded us that when a church submits to and relies on the Holy Spirit, it/they will be able to move forward with worship, prayer and unity. Amen.
**The United Women In Faith (UWIF) met on Tuesday, July 14th to share reports on books they read for the UWIF Reading Program. The meeting was brought to order by the President Sis. Shirley Jackson. An opening prayer and encouraging words were spoken by Pastor Robert Johnson. Several ladies gave reports and answered questions that were asked about their book (s). Refreshments were provided and enjoyed by all. Those in attendance were: Sisters Shirley, Annie, Michelle, Evenda, Doris, Fannie, Debra, Belinda, Ozelia, Breanna, Cashonda, Brenda, Paulette and Gwendolyn.
Mary’s Chapel UMC:
*The VBS Fun Day was held on Saturday, July 18th. The children enjoyed playing, water slides and refreshments, including snowballs. We adults played bingo with much fun and laughter. It is always good to fellowship with one another.

Varnado High School (VHS/VJHS):
*It’s that time of year again for 6th Grade Boot Camp and Prep Day for all grades. These important beginning of the year events are scheduled for Tuesday, July 28th from 9am to 12pm/Noon. Parents/Guardians and students will have the opportunity to do the following: Pay supply/other fees, sign beginning of the year forms, meet the new administration/teachers/staff, pick up schedule/LEAP scores and sign up to join clubs. *For additional information contact the school @ (985) 732-2025.
Reflections:
*On Listening: I ran into a former coworker at the post office recently and had a pleasant exchange. Our conversation required me to listen not only with my ears but with my heart, eyes and visible emotions. I stopped filling out my money order and listened as this individual talked about their life, which included a multitude of challenges. Because I have a genuine concern for others and have had to pour out my life-challenges to someone, I understood. I was silently praying as this person shared how God had and still continues to answer their prayers. We parted ways with smiles, hugs and well-wishes for one another. Who do you need to listen to today?
