Keep Louisiana Beautiful and Louisiana’s Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser awarded the Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office a $36,000 Litter Abatement Grant.
The funds will be used to purchase litter abatement gear, a vehicle, trailer and labor costs to help keep Washington Parish beautiful and litter free.
Sheriff Jason Smith thanks the Keep Louisiana Beautiful staff and volunteers for their commitment to beautifying our state. “It’s important to do our part in cleaning up Washington Parish because in the long run the issues add up and become bigger problems,” Sheriff Smith said.
The grant is the second one the Sheriff has received from Keep Louisiana Beautiful. Previously, he received a grant to set up litter enforcement cameras throughout the parish which are being strategically placed.
Combining both grants ensures WPSO is preventing litterbugs from continuing their bad habits and the Sheriff's Office also working to clean up the community. The partnership is beneficial not only for the Washington Parish Sheriff's Office, but also for the citizens of Washington Parish.
