A controversial request for a Washington Parish asphalt plant permit has been postponed until mid-September.
The plant is proposed for a site on Highway 60 between Enon and Isabel.
The developer's request for a conditional use permit was scheduled to be heard Tuesday (August 19) by the Washington Parish Planning Commission. But late last week a representative of the company seeking to build and operate the asphalt plant asked for a postponement.
The representative, Stephen Duvernay of Realty Advisors LLC, said the postponement will allow the developers to have further discussions with local residents regarding the proposed asphalt plant.
Residents and other property owners in the immediate area of Highway 60 have expressed strong concerns about the proposed asphalt plant, and this public concern was obviously a factor in the postponement.
The Planning Commission is now scheduled to hear the request for a conditional use permit at 5 p.m. on September 16 during its meeting at the Washington Parish Courthouse.
