Qualifying dates have been set for candidates seeking one of the many offices that will be on the ballot in the November 3 election.
The original qualifying dates of July 29, 30, and 31 have been changed. The new qualifying dates are August 5, 6, and 7.
Washington Parish Registrar of Voters Randy Strickland said it is importaqnt for all candidates to be aware that the qualifying dates have been changed.
The November 3 election will be a crowded one. Many offices will be on the ballot, and some local citizens have been considering running for one of those offices.
The top office in the November 3 election is for United States Senate. Republican nominee Julia Letlow faces Democratic nominee Jamie Davis. Both were nominated earlier in their party primaries.
There is also a race for the 5th District United States Congressional seat. But this race will be a primary, not a general election. That’s because of the U.S. Supreme Court decision earlier this year throwing out Louisiana’s Congressional district map.
New districts were approved by the state legislature. So the Congressional primary is November 3, and the general election will be December 12.
In addition to U.S. Senate and U.S. Representative, here are the other offices on the November 3 ballot. (Qualifying for these offices will be August 5, 6, and 7.)
•Public Service Commissioner.
•District Judge for all 12 of the 22nd Judicial District judge’s positions.
•22nd Judicial District Attorney.
•All 9 members of the Washington Parish School Board.
•All 7 members of the Bogalusa School Board.
•Justices of the Peace and Constables for all of Washington Parish.
•Bogalusa mayor, city court judge, and city marshal.
•There will also be a millage renewal for Fire District 2
•Finally, 10 Constitutional Amendments will be on the ballot.
Early voting for the November 3 election will be October 20 through October 27, excluding Sunday, October 25.
There will be plenty more information released about the crowded November 3 election as it gets closer. But, as Registrar of Voters Strickland pointed out, it is important for all potential candidates to be aware that the qualifying dates have been changed.
