Aubrey Posey, Sr. threw out the ceremonial first pitch prior to the Franklinton Demons' win over the Holden Rockets.
Mr. Posey hails from Sicily Island, Louisiana and came to Washington Parish 57 years ago at age 26 with wife Minnie Quay to work for the Cooperation Extension Service after serving four years as a Captain in the US Air Force. He and Ms. Minnie have been married for 62 years and have five children, with four of them graduating from Franklinton High School along with three of their nine grandchildren. They also have four great grands.
All his offspring have followed his own love for sports and participated in football, basketball, baseball, and softball. His sons Aubrey Jr., Jason, and Justin excelled at FHS sports and the younger two played baseball for Coach Jeff Tageant. Lt. Col Jason played football for the United States Military Academy at West Point and Justin played baseball for East Mississippi Community College and is a coach himself.
An LSU graduate, Posey retired after serving the parish as County Agent for over 40 years but has not lived a quiet retired life since because he has devoted his life to family and community service. This has included past president and honoree for the Washington Parish Free Fair and longtime chairman of the agriculture committee. He is charter member and chairman of the deacon board at Hillcrest Baptist Church.
He also signed the articles of incorporation for the Franklinton Little League Association in the late 1960's and is still actively involved.
Just a few of his other responsibilities have been member and officer in the Washington Parish Chamber of Commerce, the LA and Washington Parish Cattleman's Association, Farm Bureau Board of Directors, District VI Director of Dixie Baseball and the Southeast LA Baseball and Softball Umpire Associations.
Mr. Posey is well known for his cooking skills and is a barbecue master. Many Saturday mornings around 3:00 am, he has fired up coals and over the years has barbecued around ten thousand chickens to be sold later in the day for numerous fundraisers. For quite some time, the BBQ chicken dinner was the primary fundraiser for Demon baseball and other school and community groups.
These days he continues to serve the community but especially takes care of Ms. Minnie Quay and enjoys the successes of his children, grands, and great-grandchildren.
Just a side note, while Mr. Posey may not have always agreed with the decisions of coaches, he has never wavered in his support of the programs.
He was caught by junior pitcher and outfielder #9 Dalton Freeman.
