The Watermelon Festival Board recently announced its Grand Marshal for the 9:00 a.m. Watermelon Festival parade on Saturday morning, July 12th. The honoree is Mr. Aulton Cryer, Sr. from Mt. Hermon.
Mr. Cryer is a long-time parish farmer and vice president of the Franklinton Farmer's Market. He is a member of the Washington Parish Council on Aging, a dedicated member of Plainview Church of Christ Holiness, and a longtime member of the Watermelon Growers Association, as well as being a watermelon vendor himself.
Mr. Cryer’s daughter and son,Tonya and Tony Cryer, can be found working with him at the Franklinton Farmers' Market on Washington Street. It is open on Thursday thru Saturday, selling home-grown fruits and vegetables to the public.
