Betty Jo Peacock Richard, 93, a resident of Franklinton passed away peacefully at her home Saturday afternoon August 22, 2026 after a lengthy illness. She was born in Pleasant Hill, Louisiana on October 4, 1932. Betty moved to Baton Rouge and began working at American Bank, where she met her late husband of 65 years James Roy Richard.
Betty attended Nichols State University, while she and Roy lived in Raceland. They later lived in Lafayette for a time before returning to Baton Rouge for several years. The family then moved to Franklinton and made a life here for over 45 years. She was a longtime member of Hillcrest Baptist Church that was a true Child of God. Betty had a servant’s heart, always placing the needs of others before her own, and it showed in the kindness towards all the people she contacted, including her family, caregivers, nurses and doctors. She was a member of the Waverly Club and the Order of The Eastern Star.
Earlier in life, Betty enjoyed square dancing, sewing and crocheting. She enjoyed flower gardening, especially the beautiful rose beds she had at her home. She loved playing the piano and dressing up in the nicest outfits. Betty was forever a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister and she will be fondly missed by all those close to her.

She was also preceded in death by her parents Hershel Peacock and Leona Golden Peacock, an infant brother H.C. Peacock, sisters Everlee Rivers, Mattie Dans, Willie Lee “Jackie” Peacock, Ola Gunter, brothers Chester Peacock, H.L. Peacock, Jr., Marlin Peacock, Henry Clay Peacock, James Peacock, numerous brothers in law, sisters in law and other family members.
Visitation will be at Hillcrest Baptist Church (2201 Washington Street, Franklinton) on Saturday August 29th from 9:00 am until 11:00 am. A funeral service will be held in the church at 11:00 am Saturday with Chaplain Todd Leonard officiating. Entombment will follow in Greenoaks Memorial Park’s Garden Mausoleum (9595 Florida Blvd. Baton Rouge) at 2:00 pm Saturday.

The family wishes to express a sincere thank you to all that have lovingly supported Betty through the years, including her caregivers Ms. Janice Smith, Ms. Connie Adolph, Ms. Keila, Ms. Leberta, Ms. Phylisity, Ms. Michelle, Dr. Victoria Blossman and staff, the staff of St. Tammany Hospice, especially nurses Emily and Angelique, social worker Ms. Pam and Ms. Peg Campo, the harpist who serenaded Betty beautifully, comforting her spirit.
