For multiple generations, the fields of Washington Parish have produced some of the sweetest watermelons in Louisiana. What began as a way for local farmers to celebrate a successful harvest has grown into one of the parish's most beloved traditions: the Washington Parish Watermelon Festival.
Rooted deep in the rich soil and strong agricultural heritage of Franklinton, this festival was founded by hardworking farmers and community leaders who wanted to honor the crop that helped shape the parish. Through the years, it has become more than a celebration of watermelons it's a celebration of faith, family, farming, and the small-town traditions that bring people together year after year.
For 2026, it will be two days of fun with free admission and more thsn 50 vendors.
From July 10–11, friends and families from across Louisiana and beyond will gather at the Washington Parish Fairgrounds for a weekend of free, family-friendly fun live bands, watermelon contests, a rodeo, car show, delicious food, and the largest vendor lineup the festival has ever welcomed.
From the laughter of children with sticky watermelon smiles to the stories shared under the summer sky, every part of the festival reflects the warm hospitality and hometown spirit that make Washington Parish so special.
As the final night comes to a close, look to the skies as the festival lights up Washington Parish with a spectacular fireworks show --- the perfect ending to a weekend filled with memories, music, and hometown tradition.
