Phill Junkins, Head of School and Football Coach at Bowling Green in Franklinton for the past four years, will be leaving soon.
Junkins has been appointed Upper School Principal at Oak Forest Academy in Amite.
Prior to coming to Bowling Green in 2021, Junkins spent 7 years at Oak Forest Academy.
At Bowling Green, he has not only been Head of School but has also served as Football Coach.
Junkins will stay at Bowling Green for the remainder of the current school year and will then transition to Oak Forest Academy.
He said, “I am incredibly thankful for the opportunity to lead at Bowling Green School and look forward to what their future holds. I am forever thankful for the relationships formed and the students I have come to know. I would like to thank our amazing faculty for loving our students and impacting our community in a positive way.”
As far as a new football coach for the Buccaneers, that has already been settled, according to Junkins.
“We have named Dean King as our head man moving forward. We are excited about his future and the future of our program,” Junkins said. King will have big shoes to fill after Bowling Green made it all the way to the MPSA state championship game in both 2023 and 2024.
In a statement, Oak Forest Academy said, “Phill brings a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to academic excellence, and we are excited to welcome him back to our school community. His passion for teaching and learning is evident in his leadership and dedication to student success.”
