After a summer packed with intense workouts and an on-campus football camp, the Bowling Green Buccaneers are ready to hit the field and showcase their hard work. The team will open the preseason with a scrimmage against the Central Hinds Cougars on Friday, August 15 at Southwest Mississippi Community College. Scrimmage is set for 6 p.m.
The Buccaneers enter the 2025 season coming off back-to-back MAIS District Championships and consecutive trips to the State Championship game, finishing as state runner-up both years. Head Coach Dean King says the team is motivated to take the next step.
“Our guys have worked hard all summer,” Coach King said. “From the weight room to the practice field, they’ve been committed to getting better every day. We’re excited to see what this group can do.”
The scrimmage will give fans their first look at this year’s Buccaneers, who feature a strong core of returning starters and talented newcomers. The offense will be led by quarterback Kerston Diddon, who will look to command the passing game and keep defenses on their heels. The ground attack will feature a powerful one-two punch in Jesse Gaines and Nathan Pylant, providing speed and strength in the backfield.
Up front, the Bucs boast a talented line anchored by Braisyn O’Bryant, Layton Walters, and Marcus Bennett, whose size and toughness will be critical to the team’s success. Defensively, Bowling Green will look to maintain its reputation for physical play and relentless pursuit. Special teams will also play a key role, with kicker Alex Brock returning as kicker.
With high expectations and a challenging schedule ahead, the Buccaneers are determined to continue their winning tradition.
Fans are encouraged to make the trip to Summit and cheer on the Bucs as they prepare for what promises to be an exciting 2025 season.
