Bowling Green School has announced that Donnelle “Coach D” Dickson is the new Head Boys Basketball Coach and JV Head Coach.
Coach Dickson brings over 30 years of basketball training and coaching experience, along with a proven track record of developing athletes at every level, from youth to collegiate, professional, and international basketball. As the founder and owner of Hoops Mechanic, an elite basketball training program based in Madisonville, he has built a reputation for developing complete players through a structured system focused on skill development, game intelligence, and mental toughness.
Coach Dickson is a nationally certified personal trainer through the American Council on Exercise and specializes in sports performance, conditioning, and athlete development. His training philosophy emphasizes discipline, accountability, and preparing athletes to perform under pressure both on and off the court.
A two-time AAU National Championship head coach in 2017 and 2018, Coach Dickson has consistently demonstrated the ability to build winning programs and elevate team performance. During his time at Webb School in Bell Buckle, Tennessee, he led a remarkable program turnaround, improving the middle school boys team from a 3–11 record to a combined 35–7 record over two seasons, including a Final Four appearance and a championship game run.
Most recently, Coach Dickson has continued to produce high-level results on the national stage through his Louisiana Force program. In 2025, he led his 8th grade girls team to a Final Four appearance at the AAU World Championships, finishing 3rd overall. That same year, his 8th grade boys and 6th grade boys teams both advanced to the YBOA National Championship games. In 2024, he guided his 7th grade girls team to the YBOA National Championship game, where they finished as national runners-up. These accomplishments reflect his ability to consistently prepare teams to compete and succeed at the highest levels of youth basketball.
Throughout his career, Coach Dickson has worked with NBA players, athletes at every level of college basketball, and international professional players. He has also served as a consultant and motion capture model for NBA 2K and EA Sports, helping translate real basketball movement, fundamentals, and decision-making into the virtual game.
Coach Dickson has studied the game under some of the most respected minds in basketball and brings a modern, high-IQ approach to player development and team systems.
At Bowling Green, Coach Dickson will focus on building a disciplined, competitive, and fundamentally sound program that develops student-athletes into leaders on the court, in the classroom, and in the community. His vision includes implementing a structured skill development system, a performance-based training approach, and a team culture rooted in accountability, toughness, and unselfish play.
“I’m excited for the opportunity to lead the Bowling Green basketball program and build something special,” said Coach Dickson. “Our focus will be on development, discipline, and competing at a high level every day. We’re going to establish a standard that our players, school, and community can be proud of.”
