Bowling Green hit the road for the third straight week when they traveled to Baton Rouge Friday to face the CHEF Academy Patriots. After a season-opening win over ACCS, the Bucs dropped road games against Brookhaven Academy and Wayne Academy. A win over the Patriots would even the Bucs record at 2-2 on the season.
CHEF Academy received the opening kickoff and took over on their own 17 yard line. The Patriots failed to gain a first down and punted to the Buccaneers where they took over at their own 27 yard line. After a first down completion from Joel Dupy to Keelan Jackson, the pair hooked up again on the next play that took the ball to the Patriots 35 yard line. Dupy connected with Jackson on a third and long to put the ball at the Patriots nine. On the next play, Nathan Pylant rushed in untouched over the left side to put the Bucs on the board. Pryce O'Shaughnessy's extra point was good to give the Bucs a 7-0 lead.
Three plays after the kickoff, the Patriots were forced to punt again. Jackson caught the line drive kick at the 40 surrounded by Patriots and returned it to the 27 yard line. The Bucs would strike again when Kolt Killingsworth took a handoff and raced 27 yards for another BGS touchdown. O'Shaughnessy's extra point increased the Bucs lead to 14-0.
The Bucs defense forced another punt and the offense took over at their own 38 yard line. Dupy passed to Jackson near the line of scrimmage and he ran past Patriots defenders to the 18 yard line. Two plays later, Collin Crain took a handoff and ran 2 yards into the Patriots endzone. O'Shaughnessy added the extra point for a 21-0 Bowling Green lead.
Another three and out and a punt gave the Bucs the ball back at midfield. Cole Cooper took a handoff and raced around right end for a 20 yard gain to the Patriots 30. Nick Schilling plowed through the CHEF Academy defense to the 4 yard line before scoring the next play. O'Shaughnessy kicked another extra point to increase the BGS lead to 28 -0 early in the second quarter.
CHEF Academy picked up three first downs and was deep into BGS territory before a Tucker Penton interception stopped the drive. The Bucs took over at their own 11 yard line. The Bucs put together a 10 play, 89 yard drive that was capped off by a Dupy 1 yard touchdown run. The extra point was no good and the Bucs led 36-0 over the Patriots which stood until halftime.
Early in the third quarter, Dupy found Killingsworth behind the Patriots defense and connected with him for a 71 yard touchdown. O'Shaughnessy kicked the extra point to make it 43-0.
CHEF Academy tacked on a pair of touchdowns late in the game, but the Bucs came away with the victory.
Joel Dupy was 10-10 for 219 yards and 2 touchdowns. Nick Schilling rushed for 161 yards on 11 carries and a touchdown, and Nathan Pylant carried 8 times for 61 yards and a touchdown. Tucker Penton added a 31 yard touchdown reception, Collin Crain had 2 catches for 35 yards and a 2 yard rushing touchdown and Keelan Jackson, caught 5 passes for 80 yards. Kolt Killingsworth finished with a 27 yard rushing touchdown and a 71 yard touchdown reception. Pryce O'Shaughnessy was 5 for 6 extra points and Penton added interception. Landon Boyd led with 11 tackles (8 assisted) and Marcus Barnett had 1 quarterback sack.
The Bucs return home this Friday to host Collegiate Christian in a district contest. Kickoff is at 7 PM at W. E. "Buck" Hellen Stadium.
