The Bowling Green Buccaneers scrimmaged the Central Hinds Cougars at Southwest Mississippi Community College in Summit, Mississippi, Friday evening, giving fans an early glimpse of what to expect this Buccaneer 2025 season.
The Buccaneers demonstrated depth, determination, and grit as they worked together on both sides of the ball. The scrimmage provided valuable insight for coaches and supporters into the team’s potential heading into the year.
Quarterback Kerston Diddon guided the offense with steady leadership, while Nate Pylant and Jesse Gaines broke off several key runs to move the ball downfield. Ryn Rivenbark added speed and power from the backfield, giving the Bucs another reliable option in the ground game. Out wide, receiver Keelan Jackson used his speed and sure hands to haul in long-range passes, keeping the Cougar defense on its heels.
Defensively, the Buccaneers showed strength by holding the Cougars in key situations, demonstrating physical play and discipline on the line and in coverage. A major factor this season will be the development of the young linemen, who are expected to play crucial roles on both sides of the ball as the year progresses.
New Head Coach Dean King was quick to praise his team’s effort. “I liked what I saw out there,” King said. “These guys fought hard, and they’re starting to look like a football team that wants to win. The grit was there, the energy was there, and we’re going to keep building on that every week.”
The Buccaneers will now turn their focus to the regular season. They open on the road against Adams County Christian School in Natchez, Mississippi, with kickoff set for 7 p.m. this coming Friday night, August 22.
