The Franklinton Board of Aldermen and Mayor Darwin Sharp met on Tuesday March 24.
Alderwoman Patrice Crain asked that the minutes of the March 10 Regular Meeting be amended to add "per the ordinance" in regard to the Krewe of Pepe being charged a security fee for the parade. It was noted by Ms Crain in the March 10 meeting that a current ordinance does not charge the Washington Parish Free Fair parade, the Franklinton High School and Bowling Green School homecoming parades and the Krewe of Pepe a fee for security provided by police. She asked that it be duly noted in the minutes that her objection was in reference to the current ordinance. With this addition, the minutes of March 10, 2026, Regular Meeting, were approved. The Board then had only one agenda item to address in New Business.
The Board approved the transfer of title for a 2010 Ford van to the Council on Aging purchased with grant money through the Town of Franklinton. Mayor Sharp prefaced the vote by stating that this a routine matter and the Council on Aging with "surplus the van out" and sell it.
In Council discussion, Alderwoman Crain encouraged everyone to be aware that it is "prom season" and to be careful. Alderman Lee Dillon offered "Happy Easter" to everyone.
Mayor Sharp invited all children, PreK through 6th grade, to attend the town-sponsored Easter egg hunt on Saturday, April 4 at 10:00 am in the fairgrounds. There will be face painting, games, and an appearance by the Easter bunny. There will also be prizes following the egg hunt.
