Game of the Week - Pine Junior High at Franklinton Junior High September 2. This game has become somewhat of a rivalry as they have met three times each season for the last numerous seasons. The Raiders have won most of these matchups and look to do the same this season with another solid squad. The Falcons look to buck that trend this season as they return several quality players who got a lot of playing time last season and should have one of their best teams in several years.
By the time they line up both teams will have played at least one game so their shouldn't be any first game jitters or all of the usual missteps which is why I'm looking forward to this game with much interest.
Should be a good one.
Notes and quotes
"I thought we got some much needed work in that will help us prepare and get better for the upcoming season starting next week versus Kentwood." ---- Andy Creel, FJHS head coach.
"I thought we played well against an extremely talented football team. We moved the ball effectively in the run game and our returning players performed well. Defensively we gave up some explosive plays on missed assignments, but settled down. I felt like we played extremely well in the twelve minute timed quarter. I'm excited about this team and the opportunities that lie ahead." --- Nick Saltaformaggio, Franklinton head coach.
"Defensively, after the first drive I thought we played really well. Early on we missed some tackles but as the scrimmage went on, we kept getting better. Lyrian Hart played real well on the defensive line. Offensively we put some drives together but was hurt with a few penalties. I like where we are. We have some things to fix but that's what a scrimmage is for. Find out what needs to be fixed." ---- Bradley Seal, Pine head coach.
"I thought our guys came out and fourth hard and played with effort. We just ran out of gas towards the end. We have things to fix but also saw a lot of positive things to move forward with. It was 7-3 at half. Our guys showed a lot of fight." ---- Dean King, Bowling Green head coach.
“Well we played some real good competition. Definitely what you want to see during a scrimmage. We will watch film, make the corrections and look to improve next week!”
---- Vonta Owens, Varnado head coach
"We were in a battle with two run heavy teams. We hurt ourselves a lot with dumb penalties and if you want to be successful you just can't have that. We are going to get back at it this week and try to get better." ---Destin Pittman, Bens Ford head coach
