Memorial Day is a day of remembrance for military personnel who have died while serving in the United States armed forces. It is observed the last Monday in the month of May. I can’t imagine losing a loved one during War Time. I have a friend who lost her husband in Afghanistan, and he is buried in Arlington. We have a cousin who was shot down during World War II and he as well is buried in Arlington. I was able to visit Arlington Cemetery in 2002. When you watch a clip of it on TV or in the movies you think, “Oh wow, that is a lot of crosses.” NO! That is a sea of crosses for those who fought for our freedom. I was overwhelmed by all the crosses as far as the eye could see. We were also able to see a military burial while we were there. It was so emotional watching the horse drawn carriage with the casket and the American Flag. It felt like such an honor to be able to observe this somber occasion. I am grateful for the military and their families who sacrifice so much.
Enon Baptist Church will have a ladies bible study starting soon. Vacation Bible School will be June 13-17 from 8:30 am to 11:30 am. Brother Chris had a wonderful message on Sunday, it was titled, “The Need is Great; The Hour is Critical”. The Youth will begin their bible study on June 5th. Children in Action will have a Men’s Marshmallow Olympics Day on June 4th. It will be from 10 am to 1 pm. Your guess is as good as mine for what all is going to take place, but it sure sounds FUN! We are still collecting items for the Washington Parish Food Bank, Operation Christmas Child, and we are taking Box Tops for Education, Community Coffee coupons, and aluminum can tabs.
Condolences to the families of Fran Blackwell and William Rhodus.
Happy birthday to Brynley Brown, Silas Pace, Candace Brown, Dillon Pace, John David Parker, Jeff Green, David Gilly, Donnie Wilson, and Barrett Jenkins.
Please be sure to visit the Enon Library this month! There are so many wonderful activities that are going on this summer. Please make sure your child is reading throughout the summer. Even if they “aren’t a reader”, find something that interests them. My youngest got in to “graphic novels” a while back, while is a cool word for comics. There are many different types of books to read, you just need to find one that fits.
I hope you all have a wonderful week and enjoy time with family and friends. Until next week…..
