Parish Playoff Picture
The parish playoff picture has two remaining teams in the playoffs.
#1 seed Franklinton won their first playoff game since 2015 and will play in the quarterfinals for the first time since 2015.
They will host their district rival, Lakeshore, this week. The Demons defeated the Titans earlier in the season, 35-28. If the Demons win they would play the winner of the Iowa/Franklin Parish game in Demon Stadium.
Pine upset the Kaplan Pirates last week and will travel to play St James, the #1 seed in Division III non select.
Deep playoff runs are becoming commonplace to the Raiders and this season they are looking for an even deeper run. If Pine is successful against St. James, they would play the winner of the Union Parish/Kinder game on the road.
Notes and Quotes
The judge ruled for the LHSAA in the hearing held on November 18th, University High, the school that brought the suit against the LHSAA has been put out of the playoffs and will likely have sanctions and penalties placed against them.
In round one of the playoffs Ferriday High and Lake Arthur High had a game ending brawl between portions of their football teams. The LHSAA has ruled it a double forfeit and both teams are out of the playoffs. Ferriday was ahead 30-7 late in the second period when the brawl occurred. This gave Welsh a bye in the second round.
"It's great to be playing on Thanksgiving. The old saying 'the cream rises to the top this time of year' so when you're one of the final eight guys, hats off to us, it's been a long time. Our school, and Shane and this town deserve it, our student body, our administration, we deserve to be here. We played a tough schedule and we deserve to be the number one seed and we played like it today. We still haven't played our best game. We tried to keep them around, we really did, but we'll be getting ready for Lakeshore, it's a district opponent and we get them back here again. So, we'll go to work."
---Nick Saltaformaggio, Franklinton coach
"I thought we had a very good game plan going in against the incredibly talented Tri-County team. We played extremely well in the first half of football and we played hard. We said our three keys going into the game were to not turn the ball over, control the clock and not give up big plays. Unfortunately, we did give up two plays in the ball game and I think ultimately that's the difference. We played iron man football both ways all night and they left nothing on the field and I'm extremely proud of the way they played against a really, really talented football team. They are a special group of young men that did something that has not been done in Bowling Green history before. They were asked to go to back to back state championship appearances so we are incredibly proud of them."
---Bowling Green coach Phill Junkins
"It was a big win for our program. Winning playoff games on the road is hard to do and making it to Thanksgiving week back to back years says a lot about our program. The last month our quarterback Trey Knight has really stepped up and taken his game to a different level. Also, what a game DJ Garrett had with two touchdown catches and three interceptions. He is top five in the state in catches and has ten interceptions on the year."
---Bradley Seal, Pine coach.
