The parish playoff picture this week has come almost all the way into focus with just one week left. A lot can still change in the last week, so take that into account. Note that for LHSAA schools, the top 28 teams in the power ratings qualify for the playoffs. The top four seeds receive a first round bye and will then play their first game at home in the second round.
Franklinton is in excellent shape at #1 in the Division II non-select. They have a winnable game this week and likely will remain in the top spot with a win and would also likely stay in the top four with a loss. The Demons are still playing for the win and remove any doubt so they could have a bye in the first round.
Pine is in good shape also at 11 in the Division III non-select. They also have a winnable game this week and look to remain in the top 16 to have a home first round game.
Bogalusa is still on the bubble at 23 in Division III non-select. They have a winnable game this week and look to remain in the top 28 so they can qualify for the playoffs. A win and this should happen while a loss and they would need help.
Varnado is still on the bubble at 28 in Division IV non-select. They need a win desperately to remain in the top 28 while a loss would almost certainly put them out.
Bowling Green and Bens Ford both have playoff games this week. Wins would put them in the semi-finals of their respective classes.
Notes and Quotes
"We are happy to be 8-1 and district champions for the first time in almost a decade. More than anything, I am happy for our school and community. Our players and coaches have worked extremely hard for this, and I am so proud of them for what they have accomplished. That being said, we have to remain focused on the task at hand. There is still a lot of work to be done on both sides of the ball.
The field conditions were wet and sloppy, and we did have a couple of miscues that we have to correct, but overall, I am pleased that we were able to overcome adversity once again and make enough plays to win."
-----Nick Saltaformaggio, Franklinton coach
"I'm happy with the way we played last night. I thought our offensive line controlled the game and that's what we preached all week. Defensively other than one big play we played well all night." -----Bradley Seal, Pine coach.
"Well, we know Newton real well just like they know us real well. They are a very well coached team. They beat us with a couple of minutes left on the clock by seven points earlier this year. If it is anything like the first game it will be a very competitive physical game."
----Destin Pittman, Bens Ford coach
"Looking forward to Friday night. Got a little bit of a surprise, instead of Winston, we will have St Aloysius of Vicksburg, Mississippi. A lot like Centerville, Mississippi, they want to line up right so we will have our hands full. Look forward to a great game of football Friday night at Buck Hellen stadium."
-----Phill Junkins, Bowling Green coach
