Parish Playoff Picture
The parish playoff picture this week has come a bit more into focus with just two weeks left. A lot can change so take that into account. Note that for LHSAA schools, the top 28 teams in the power ratings qualify for the playoffs. The top four seeds receive a first round bye and will then play their first game at home in the second round.
Franklinton is in excellent shape as they moved back to #1 in Division II non select. Need a win this week for a district championship and also playing to have a first round bye and a second round home game.
Pine is in good shape also, sitting at 11 in Division III non select. They need wins to maintain a first round home playoff game and to improve their seeding.
Bogalusa gave themselves some breathing room with their win over Springfield and have moved up to 21 in Division III non select. It may come down to having to win their final game versus Albany to qualify for the playoffs as they have a tough game this week against Pine.
Varnado moved into the top 28 at 27 in Division IV non select with their win over Crescent City. At least one more win will likely be necessary to stay in the top 28.
Bowling Green and Bens Ford have both won their respective districts and have a bye in the first round of the MAIS playoffs.
Notes and Quotes
"A win is a win. We are obviously extremely explosive offensively, but to get to the Dome we have to find a defensive stop or two. We are 7 and 1 and we are excited to have Franklinton back on the 'front' page in prep football again. We still have a lot to play for and a lot to accomplish."
-----Nick Saltaformaggio, Franklinton coach
"Hats off to our defense. They are playing as good as they possibly can. Offensively in the second half we moved the ball but could not finish drives. 4 times we moved the ball inside the 20 and 3 of the drives inside the 10 and came away with 2 field goals. I thought the effort was there just didn't finish drives."
-----Bradley Seal, Pine coach.
"Well, we finished out the season strong last night. One good thing is we are clicking on offense and are very crisp. Also going into the playoffs, the biggest thing is we are healthy all the way across the board. We are excited and ready to try to make a good run at this thing." -------Destin Pittman, Bens Ford coach
"New season starts now. No wins, no losses. Excited for the next few weeks. We will have the winner of Winston and St Al's. Kids have shown focus this week at practice and we have had fun. Great for our seniors to get this opportunity to extend the season."
------Phill Junkins, Bowling Green coach
"It's always good to get a win on senior night. We have two really good football teams to play the next two weeks. Hopefully we can bring some of the momentum from last night into those games."
------Adam Brumfield, Varnado head coach
