The countdown is on! With the exception of final exams, awards day, and, of course graduation, the 23-24 school year is nearly done. Graduation Walk for Seniors is Thursday at 8 AM and their parade is at 2 PM. Thursday is also the Athletic Reception at 6 PM in the gym.
The Class of 2024 will graduate this Saturday, May 11th at 10 AM in the gym. Congratulations to you all! Next Friday, May 17th, the Pre-K program will begin at 8:45 AM, and the Kindergarten graduation will begin at 10 AM. Also, Teacher Appreciation Week is this week. Make sure the teachers know how much they are appreciated.
The MHS Golden Grad Reunion was this past Saturday. From the Class of 1953 to the Class of 1975, there were over 100 graduates present. Special recognition was given to the graduate who traveled the farthest, Mr. Kermit Simmons from Hawaii. The oldest graduate present was Mrs. Bobbie Wilkes McElveen Adams, Class of 1953.
There was a three-way tie for the most siblings present. Smith siblings - Emelda McElveen, Celia Painter, Sharon Pierce-Cooley and Pearl Pike. Miller siblings - Donnie Miller, Brenda Penny, Sue Burch and Ann Hingle. Wilkes siblings - Bobbie Adams, Elaine Cook, Chuck Wilkes and Janice Branch. Everyone enjoyed catching up with each other, looking at yearbooks and reminiscing of their wonderful days as students of Mt. Hermon School.
Test out your crawfish cooking skills this Saturday at Silver Creek Campground. They will have a Crawfish Cook-Off from 10 AM-2 PM. Register at the gate when you arrive. Team entry fee is $30 (max of 3 people per team). $5 ticket bundles will be sold for sample tastings of each team's crawfish, and that includes 1 voting ticket. Prizes will be awarded to 1st, 2nd and People's Choice.
Bogue Chitto Baptist Church will have Graduate Sunday on May 19th. Kindergarten, High School and College graduates will be recognized. If you or your child would like to be recognized, please let them know by May 8th.
Sunny Hill Baptist Church invites all to join them for Sunday school at 9, morning worship at 10, evening service at 5 and Wednesday Bible study at 5. Also, they now have Children's Church on Sunday mornings at 10 AM. Parents, bring the children to learn of God's love.
Mt. Hermon United Pentecostal Church welcomes all to the Monday night Bible Study at 7 PM, Tuesday night Prayer Meeting at 7 PM, Wednesday night classes for adults, youth and kids at 7 PM, Sunday morning praise and worship service at 10 AM, and Hope Alive meetings are Sunday evenings at 6 PM for food and fellowship and the meeting begins at 7 PM. Hope Alive is a faith-based recovery, court approved, 12 step meetings for anyone with a hurt, habit or hang-up. Hope is alive through Jesus!
Section 1 Spring Rally for Ladies is this Friday night, 7 PM at Lee Road Pentecostal Church.
The Young at Heart group will meet next Thursday, May 16th, 11:30 AM at Golden Corral in McComb, MS. Come hungry, leave happy!
