Parish Playoff Picture - This week we'll begin looking at the playoff picture for the four parish teams as it comes into focus the closer we get.
Franklinton is currently at #25 in the power ratings but with three games to go really need some more wins to solidify a better position and to keep from sliding out of the top 32.
Bogalusa is at #15 with an open date and at least one winnable game remaining putting them in very good shape. Win both and get a home playoff game. Split and still possible but lose both and not likely but still certainly in the playoffs.
Pine is in the best shape at #8 in 2A. They do have two tough games of their three remaining but the playoffs are a lock and a home first round is in their control.
Varnado is at #35 and need to win some games to get into the top 32. Would probably need to win two of their final three.
Notes and Quotes
"It was a good win and a dominant performance by our guys. The plan was to make sure we started fast and we did that. Our guys were down after last week, we preach to them not to let one week affect the other. We thought we had an advantage on the perimeter, and we exploited that in the first half. We have to put it behind us quickly because district and distractions of the Fair are next week. Out ream is playing with some confidence right now, and we look forward to competing for the district championship. Go Demons!" ---Franklinton Demons head football coach Jonathon Barber
"First off I give credit to the offensive and defensive line of Independence. I was impressed with the way they played. It wasn't a pretty win. Going into the game we had two turnovers on the year and we had three Thursday. We gave up a touchdown on special teams and on offense. But our team is resilient. Of our five wins we have trailed in four. I'm proud of the team when we are down, we don't let it affect us. Next week is a big one versus Kentwood." ---Pine head football coach Bradley Seal
"They are a really good team but we didn't play very well. They scored early, took the momentum and kept it. We had a lot of young guys playing due to injuries and its good that they get some experience but its difficult for them against a really good football team." ---Varnado head football coach Adam Brumfield
"It was nice to finish out with a win for our seniors. It was a rough season for us but now we have to hit the offseason and get better." ---Bens Ford head football coach Destin Pittman
"We grew up last night. Yeah, we are having some struggles because we've lost a few kids to injury but our young men are playing harder and harder every week and we are getting better! If we could capitalize on momentum and critical stops, we could be in a different style of game. But I'm very proud of our boys and everything they are giving us!"--- Denham Springs head coach Brett Beard
"Any win is a good win. I thought we played a little sloppy, but we did enough to end up on the right end of the scoreboard. It was a really solid effort by our ever improving defense and our big play guys did enough to put us in the end zone early and often in the first half. The second half was long and a lot less seamless. Turnovers and penalties continue to plague us and, in another game, may have been enough to keep us down. We will watch the film, make corrections, learn from it and move on to St Paul's." ---Mandeville head football coach Hutch Gonzales
"Thursday night was a great night of football. I'm very proud of my guys. They fought for four quarters! They grew up. Boys became men. They learned to never quit. We did not walk off the field with the win last night. We did walk off the field with pride! Football emulates life. You face challenges, if you never quit the success prevails. You win in the end! Our guys will continue to play hard, keep getting better. The success will show when we least expect it. This week we play the Warriors of Amite. Another big challenge. A perennial power house in Louisiana. We'll use it to build and get better once again." ---Independence head football coach Scott Shaffett
"Back and forth battle between two of the better teams in 2A football! Fantastic atmosphere with a playoff feel to it. We were limited running the football but we did just enough in the passing game with Javae Gilmore catching two touchdowns from Jaylen Robinson. Earl Jackson was our do it all once again playing multiple positions in the win. Our defense played stellar and when we needed to make stops, we were able to. Our biggest thing now is trying to get healthy; we had some guys banged up and a couple more banged up last night. Tough game coming up versus Independence." ---Amite head football coach Zephaniah Powell
