Game of the Week - East Jefferson at Pearl River. Both teams are 1-0 early in the season with rather easy wins in week one. This should be a good test for each team as the both look to build on their record.
Both teams also are in tough districts so their non district games are crucial in determining their final power ratings and thus their playoff opportunities.
The Rebels want to run the ball while their new quarterback gains experience while the Warriors look for their entire backfield to gain experience.
Should be a good one.
Notes and Quotes
"I thought we competed well. I knew what we were up against in Bogalusa. We struggled on the back end defensively and we really need to get better. We need to figure out how to win. The fans that came out and paid their money definitely got their money's worth in this game. I feel good about our football program and we have to put Bogalusa behind us and work on Covington. There's an old saying 'don't let the same team beat you twice.'
Covington doesn't do anything special but what they do, they do well. Its going to be a battle and if we continue to improve hopefully it'll give us a chance in the fourth quarter." Franklinton coach Nick Saltaformaggio
"I'm proud of the way we played. We were able to jump on Varnado early and get the momentum. I thought we played well in all three phases. We need to build on this versus Independence this week." Pine coach Bradley Seal
"First, hats off to Pine. Coach Seal does a good job and they have a good football team this year. Obviously, our coaches and kids are disappointed. We only have three seniors this year so for a lot of kids it was their first game to start and you could tell. One of our seniors who is our quarterback, Tyriq Bell, got banged up in the jamboree. He tried to fight through it and play but could not. The good news about being young is we have a ton of room to improve and get better. I like the group of kids we have and I think they will get better each week. Our schedule is really tough at the beginning and we just have to stick it out, get better each week and hope to be playing our best football when district comes around. We will see how mentally tough we are by the number of kids we have at practice this week. We will learn a lot about our team and their willingness to get better and improve this week." Varnado coach Adam Brumfield
"We are starting to gel as a team. Proud of the guys last night. Amassed over 500 yards of offense and allowed one first down on defense. We still have room for improvement. We are one game away from district play and we will be pushing hard to accept nothing less than the best from each guy on our team." Bowling Green coach Jason Johnson
"We were in a back and forth game all night. We would score and they would score but in the fourth we were finally able to go up two scores and get the ball back to run the clock out. Overall, a tough night but we found a way to win it." Bens Ford coach Destin Pittman
