Last week I lost my dad, Flavius Sharp. He was 85 years old, and I am no expert, but it can’t be easy to lose a parent at any age.
He was a man of many talents. He loved to sing, play the guitar, visit the Smoky Mountains, Jesus, his family, his friends, among other things. Dad had a wonderful bass voice and used to sing in the Joy Singers group years ago at Enon Baptist Church and in the church choir.
He was a former Washington Parish Free Fair Volunteer and was a part of Mile Branch. If you knew my dad, you could find him “pickin and grinnin” on one of the porches during the Fair or pretty much any other event. Dad loved Bluegrass Music and played with a variety of folks around Dollywood over the years, at Rocky Branch Community Center in Walland, TN, Old Timer’s Day at Townsend, TN, and at Riverbend Blue Grass Festivals.
I am thankful to have been able to travel to so many places with him and my mom. They actually took me to Niagra Falls, the American, and the Canadian side, we were able to visit Washington, D.C. together, and the most impressive was New York City with them and my brother Mike.
I could go on and on about my dad, but I will just say he is loved and will be terribly missed. (Thank you so much to all who helped, visited, cooked, cleaned, consoled, prayed, and especially Rob Crain and his staff who helped make things a bit more bearable in our time of sorrow.)
Enon Baptist Church will have an Afternoon Ladies Tea on May 20th at 3 pm. This will be to benefit the Northlake Crisis Pregnancy Center. Items needed: baby wash, lotions, wipes, and bottles.
Our Homestead Day has been postponed and we will let you know when it is rescheduled for.
We are collecting items for Operation Christmas Child: washcloths, Kleenex, combs, soaps, girls socks, boys socks, shipping cost is $9 per box, and if you would like to have them do the Greatest Journey, it is an extra $7.
May 24th is the End of the Year Party for the Youth at Zona from 5 pm to 9 pm. The May Fundraiser for the Youth at EBC is a calendar, you “purchase” a day, for instance if you “buy May 10th, then you give $10. We appreciate all of your support for Camp Fuego.
We will be having VBS “Keeper of the Kingdom” on the following Wednesdays this summer: May 31st, June 7th, 14th, 21st, and 28th. 5:30 will be dinner, then 6 pm to 8 pm is VBS. I hope you can join us!
Condolences to the families of Susan Eccles, Sally Stephens, Amanda Jenkins, and Flavius Sharp.
Happy birthday to Michael Williams, Danny Cargill, Kenny Barbin, Rhett Brown, Celeste Knight, Stephanie Perry Polk, and Ben Mizell.
Congratulations to the Class of 2023 on graduating this month! I wish you all well and hope that you know there are many people praying for you and your future. Remember that it is OK to be unsure of what you want to be or where to go to school or if you even want to go to school, you may want to go straight into the workforce. Sometimes we just need to step back, take a breath, pray, and see where God is leading us. I am so proud of my daughter Gracie on graduating this past Thursday from FHS. I know that the last month of school was NOT what any of us wanted or expected, but you handled it well. I am profoundly grateful for those who have supported my children and especially to our “Tennessee” friends (Karen and Jeff Hood, Willard Webb) who were actually able to surprise her for graduation. I know that it wasn’t on the football field like you planned, but it was beautiful none the less. We are so proud of you!
May 18th Enon Elementary will have awards for Pre-K at 9 am, Kindergarten at 10 am, and 6th grade at 1 pm. This will be the last day for Pre-K and Kindergarten. May 19th is $1 dress day. May 23rd is Fun Day, and May 24th is the last day for students ---- it will be a half day.
Congratulations to Nicole Manning for winning the Mother’s Day drawing at the Enon Library. Make sure you take your kids to the Summer Reading Program at the Library this summer, it is going to be a blast.
I hope that all of you Moms had a wonderful Mother’s Day. No matter how Mother’s Day looks for you, know that you are acknowledged, loved, and appreciated. I am so thankful to have my mother and mother-in-law. May you all have a wonderful week. Until next time…...
