It was move in day this past weekend at Centenary College. We got Gracie settled into her dorm, she has a wonderful roommate and suitemate thank goodness! Classes begin Monday, so we shall see how that goes. She (and we) loves the campus and school. I really am excited for her. Football has made a return to Centenary College this year, which is really exciting. The Gents football history is interesting. They had their first football game in 1894 and it ended in 1941. The football program was attempted to be revived a couple of times but was unsuccessful until now. We also have a football player from Washington Parish on the team, Will Culpepper. Go Gents!
While we were on our trip to Shreveport my mama got to visit with her sweet friend Mrs. Exie Jo Corkern Elmore. They have been friends since the 1st grade! I am so thankful for their friendship and the fact that my brother Ron was able to get mom to meet Mrs. Exie Jo and her husband Mr. John for lunch. I am sure that since Gracie’s school is so much closer maybe we can visit more. Next up will be meeting up with her sweet friend Mrs. Lurline McIlwain Ard in Alexandria! (notice a theme here, I can get mom to visit them on the way to school!)
The Bake Sale at Enon Baptist Church last week was a hit! We definitely have some amazing bakers and cooks! September is our Annual Georgia Barnette Louisiana Missons Offering. Our goal is $1,200.
August 27th will be Children in Action Recognition. Normal Wednesday activities have returned.
Mrs. Alice will be making an order for Fair Parade throws on September 18th. Shoebox items needed for Operation Christmas Child are toys, pencils, coloring books, scissors, pens, erasers, and loose-leaf paper. The Covington Pregnancy Center needs baby wipes, baby shampoo, baby lotion, and size 5 diapers.
Happy birthday to Carrie Clark, Marci Stevens, Jennifer McGlothlin Griffith, Bobbie Jones Sturdivant, our amazing Pre-K teacher Destini Holloway, Robbie Watson, Tracey Barber Ladner, Michelle Marble Richardson, and Mallory Voth Davis.
Condolences to the families of Matthew Hennick, Gail Sanderson, Tajdryn Forbes, and Brandon Mulina.
The movies at the Enon Library will be August 24th LEGO “The Indominus Escape”, August 31st Pink Panther Cartoons. They had 70 of our Enon Elementary students visit them this past week. We love visiting the ladies at the library and are learning so much from them. Our Enon Eagles are getting into the rhythm of their school schedule again. We are trying to make sure that students don’t get too hot and stay hydrated. Please review the newer rules and policies on our Facebook page or website.
Please, please remember there is a statewide BURN BAN, that should be common sense with the terrible heat and dry conditions. There have been so many fires recently and frankly it is extremely scary to me.
Please take care in the awful heat and try to stay hydrated. I hope you all have a fabulous week. Check on your family, friends, and neighbors, not just because of the heat, just make sure they are doing ok. Until next time…..
