Hello there. I hope you are doing well after the Fourth of July.
I would like to congratulate someone you and I know on their 50 years + 11 months job anniversary at the Washington Parish Activity Center in Franklinton, LA. She started there in 1970 and still there, by the grace of God. Her name is Mrs. Hilda Brumfield. She is my aunt, most people thought she was my sister. She won't leave her house unless she has everything on her body straight. She is born-again Christian from New Jerusalem MBC. Married to her high school sweetheart, her teddy bear, the late Ernest Brumfield Jr. They both helped raise her late brother's sons, Timmy and Steve Magee and others as well. Her mother was Oare Dawson Magee, and when she spoke you better listen because Grandma did not play, until she got ready to play.
Hilda was raised in a ten-sibling family and attended Washington Parish High School where she graduated in 1963. She enrolled in nurse training classes at Washington Parish Education and Vocational Technical Training. She did play in the band some until mom said a big "NO". Mother thought it was a sin, but she really loved the band, the mighty, mighty Tigers. Push em back, way back! Go Tigers!
She had many jobs before her last job. Her husband and his brother had a cleaning service, which is how I got my first job cleaning the Washington Bank with Uncle Ernest; almost broke my leg before I started.
She has been faced with many tings in life, including the old "goat" would not let her in her car under her garage one day. The main thing was losing her mother on December 3, 1991, the same week I tied the knot, on Saturday, December 7, 1991. She has held many offices in her past, and still doing some of them now. She is a member at Bethel Church of Christ Holiness, under the leadership of someone she used to teach in Sunday School, when she could catch him; elder Alvin Partman Sr. She is a licensed missionary, deaconess, choir member of District Diocese and National Convention. She was the President of the UWM at her church, and served as Chairman of 40 Days of Prayer, Scholarship Committee Assistant Treasurer of the Ministries for the Women Department.
Oh yeah, there is two more things you need to know about her, she loves to dress in her best and loves her hats. Her favorite scripture is Proverbs 3:6. "In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths".
