Parish Playoff Picture - With just two games left in the 2023 regular season the power ratings continue to come into focus. A reminder that only the top 28 teams in each division get into the playoffs. Seeds 1-4 receive a first round bye. Top 16 seeds have their first game at home.
Franklinton, despite their loss, remains at 26 in Division II showing no movement. They have little margin for error and their remaining games are huge.
Bogalusa is in really good shape in Division III at 8. They have two stout opponents remaining on their schedule and with two wins would remain in great shape. If they split those two games they would still likely have a first round home game but two losses would put them in jeopardy of going on the road in the first round.
Pine also is in great shape in Division III at 4. They have a tough game this week but should win their final game next week. So, two wins and they likely keep a first round bye. If they split the two games they will be at home in the first round but two losses could jeopardize their first round home game and possibly put them on the road.
Varnado is currently at 21 in the Division IV power points and have two very tough opponents coming up. If they win both they could host a first round playoff game, if they split them they likely would be on the road in the first round but two losses could, but not necessarily, drop them out of the playoffs.
Notes and Quotes
"I thought we competed well in the first half. The surprise onside kick caught us off guard and we never recovered. I told our players that to win a game like that, that our players needed to play better and faster and tougher longer than their players. We didn't do that. Their offensive line really dominated our defensive front and we couldn't tackle #2. That along with the lack of self control and multiple penalties was the reason we were not winners tonight."
---Franklinton coach Nick Saltaformaggio
"That was a hard football game to win. I'm proud of the team and how tough we played. Next week is going to be a very big game against Bogalusa. We have to be ready to defend their quarterback."
---Pine coach Bradley Seal
"It's always good to get a win during Fair week because we have so many distractions that come along with the fair. You learn who the truly committed players are on your team. We came out flat in the first half and turned the ball over early, but luckily, we gathered ourselves and started playing better especially in the second half. We took some lumps early playing a really hard schedule, but I think it paid dividends the last few games. We just have to keep trying to get better each week."
--- Varnado coach Adam Brumfield
