Game of the Week - Amite 2-1 at Kentwood 3-1. This one just jumped off the page when I looked at the list of games. Both teams are perennial playoff powers and being just a few miles down the road from each other means that they are going to bump heads occasionally.
Amite got off to a slow start dropping their opener and may still be trying to get on track while Kentwood just got drummed last week and need to prove that game was not who they are, so both teams want this game very badly.
It will be old school, knock down, drag out, slobber mouth high school football in a classic high school venue, under the tank!
Should be a good one.
Notes and Quotes
The Warren Easton football team, which had already been suspended from the 2023 playoffs, has now had their first two wins of the season forfeited.
The G. W. Carver Rams football team has cancelled the remainder of their season, or had it cancelled for them, after it was found to be using ineligible players when they were already on probation for doing the same thing last school year.
"We were outmanned, just from the get go they overwhelmed us. And we have to figure it out. I don't think we are as bad as the score but we're probably not as good as the team that beat Covington either. Somewhere in the middle lies the truth. You have to find a way to win the games you're supposed to win, that's why last weeks loss hurts. I knew this was going to be a tough out no matter what. So now we have six games left against opponents that are our size, that have our talent level and just figure out if we can get through it. We've got to find another guy besides Conner Magee, we're going to run out of gas with him if we don't find somebody else. But, our kids work hard and I'm happy, I'm proud and I'm honored to be the coach at Franklinton. I vowed that we would get it fixed but its probably going to take a little bit longer than people thought it would." --- Franklinton coach Nick Saltaformaggio
"Right now, we are playing really well as a team in all three phases. Livingston won nine games last year and a playoff game and a big part of that was because of their defensive line. Our offensive line knew they were good and responded to the challenge. I'm proud of them. Von Johnson had a big game for us with 18 rushes for 77 yards and a touchdown as well as a kick return for a touchdown. James Owens had 138 yards rushing on 8 carries. Our defense is playing really well right now." Pine coach Bradley Seal
"We turned the ball over three times in the first half so we went down three scores. We didn't turn it over any the second half so we fought back and scored three times. At the end of the day, we lost the turnover battle 3-0 and we were 0-3 on two point plays and that was the difference. We had a lot of injuries coming into the game and we suffered a lot during the game. I'm proud of my kids for fighting back and giving themselves a chance to win. If we lose a game by a lot of points most of the time the other team has better football players or athletes, but when we lose close games it's on me." --- Varnado coach Adam Brumfield
"Our guys just keep bringing their "A" game. I think the key to our success is that we continually strive to be better. We are a true blue collar team that gives our all from the weight room to the game field."---Bowling Green coach Jason Johnson
"We had a good night. We still have some things to work on but it is good to be back on the winning side. --- Bens Ford coach Destin Pittman
