Parish Playoff Picture - With just a single game left in the 2023 regular season the power ratings have given us a nearly clear picture of the parish playoff picture. A reminder that only the top 28 teams in each division get into the playoffs. Seeds 1-4 receive a first round bye. Top 16 seeds have their first game at home.
Franklinton is on very shaky ground at 27 in Division II. A win this week is an absolute must to secure a playoff spot, which would be on the road in the first round.
Bogalusa is at 6 in Division III and has locked down a playoff spot and probably has secured a home playoff game. With a win this week they can assure a home first round game.
Pine is at 7 in Division III and will be in the playoffs and likely at home. A win this week would assure a home first round game.
Varnado is at 20 in Division IV. A win would be a huge assist in bettering their playoff seeding and a loss would hurt their seeding. They will be on the road in the first round.
Notes and Quotes
"It was a tough loss. I am extremely appreciative of the play of our senior football players this year. I told them that to play with the effort that they played with for their third head coach in four years is a testament to the quality of young men that they are. I'm disappointed with the score, but proud of our effort. The major disappointment for me is the lack of self control of our younger players. Until we are able to play with more discipline, we will not be successful in any meaningful games."
--- Franklinton coach Nick Saltaformaggio
"Hard loss for our team. Bogalusa is very good. They possessed the ball most of the night. Their quarterback is a really good player. We had a few mistakes that kept him on the field and you can't give him extra possessions. We need to bounce back and focus on becoming a better football team."
--- Pine coach Bradley Seal
"We came out playing hard I thought. But obviously we didn't finish well. It takes four quarters to beat a really good team and they are a really good team. Next week is St Martin for senior night and a win I think will get us a home playoff game so we have a lot to play for. They're a good team with one of the highest ranked recruits in the state so hopefully we can have a good week of practice and come out and play well. Our two seniors have been great for us this year so it would be threat to get that win." --- Varnado coach Adam Brumfield
"We look forward to hosting a playoff game this Friday. We will play Wayne Academy which beat Lee 58-54 in a first round game. We beat Wayne earlier in the season 30-20. They are greatly improved since our first meeting and it will be a task to slow down their spread offense attack. Our guys are focused and excited about this opportunity. We will bring our best effort."
--- Bowling Green coach Jason Johnson
"Well, we had a great night last night picking up the win in round one. Now we head to Arkansas to play the number one overall seed. It should be a fun trip and you know if you want to be the best you have to play the best."
