Parish Playoff Picture - With just three games left in the regular season we're going to begin focusing on the parish playoff picture.
Franklinton got a big boost from their win over Pearl River and are currently at the 26 spot in D2. Still need some wins to solidify a playoff spot.
Bogalusa is at 8 in the D3 power ratings and have likely locked up a playoff spot but they need wins to have a home game in the first round.
Pine dropped to 4 in the D3 power ratings and have also locked up a playoff spot but still could have a first round bye with a few more wins.
Varnado received a huge boost with their two recent wins and are currently at 16 in the D4 power ratings. Still could use another win or two before locking in a playoff spot.
Notes and Quotes
"Like I told the kids before the game, it's not who you play it's who you beat. Those guys came in here as the number two ranked power rating team and a 4-1 record. I'm sure they felt very confident coming in and we felt confident coming in but we had a couple of mistakes that we had to overcome, homecoming festivities today that we had to overcome so resiliency is the mark of a good program and even though we are far from saying we are a good program we are resilient and that is the mark of becoming a good program. When you can run the football like we can run the football you're going to win some games. Like the old saying the run game and defense travel well.
I said guys I'll draw a scheme up on the board that will work for you and I drew a big heart on the board. I said there's your scheme. Because there is no scheme that matters if you aren't going to play with heart. And they listened to me as they played with a tremendous amount of heart in the second half."
--- Franklinton coach Nick Saltaformaggio
"That's a tough loss. Credit to Amite, they beat us. At times I thought we played good. We had 483 yards and held them to 256 yards. Von Johnson had 188 yards. But at times we shot ourselves in the foot. They had a punt block for a touchdown and a fumble for a score. You can't give up two non offensive touchdowns and expect to beat Amite. We have to be ready to bounce back because Sumner is a very good team." --- Pine coach Bradley Seal
"It was unfortunate that we had to play two games in one week but it worked out as well as it could have. We got our first district win with West St John and also I'm pretty sure the first time in school history to win against them. We followed it up with a win last night for homecoming. We had a ton of alumni out and glad they got to see the Wildcats get another win. We had a ton of community support last night. Our senior quarterback Tyriq Bell played great in both wins. He is a cool and calm kid under pressure and the moment is never too big for him. He ran and passed for a touchdown Monday and passed for two and ran for one Friday. Chase Lewis, another senior and the leader of our team also played well in both games. He caught a touchdown and scored one on an interception Monday and caught two touchdowns last night. Hopefully we have kids at practice this week and we don't let the Fair get to us. If we do I think we can keep the streak going."
--- Varnado coach Adam Brumfield
"First of all, compliments to Oak Forest, they have a good football team. I thought we matched their physicality and played hard. We did, however, create some self inflicted wounds with penalties that cost us. The good news is this was not a district game and does not affect our playoff picture. We will host our first playoff game on November 3. The open date and the bye week that we earned by being district champions will give us some much needed time to heal some minor injuries that have been nagging a few of our key guys. And that should have us 100 percent healthy by that playoff game."
---Bowling Green coach Jason Johnson
"It was a tough physical battle in the trenches last night. We were down headed into halftime. Our boys came out the second half with a lot of life and took the game over. We were able to complete the comeback against a good team."
---Bens Ford coach Destin Pittman
