There’s some creative folks in this world, y’all, and I’m trying to fit in. I saw a project that I, ever optimistic, figured that I could do. It involved a dog and a grandbaby, so the red flags should’ve been flying high, and with expeditious speed.
Three pictures, depicting a canvas painting of iris blooms, made from dog paws, aroused my inner crafter. Besides, I hadn’t painted in a long minute, and felt the tug of the brushes. And it would be the perfect Easter craft, don’t you think? All Springy, and so forth.
Seemingly simple: all I needed was some paint (which I already had), a canvas ($4 from the Dollar General), brushes and a dog (already had those, too). Sugar Plum was coming over, so that would be an easy and fun craft for us to do together. Right?
After gathering all of our supplies into a basket, we went outside, to avoid any messes. Plopping down on the grass,I called Crue (the dog). Ears turned one way, and the tongue flopping another way; he happily galloped over. Dipping the bottom of his paw into the paint became my new fear of what an unsaved afterlife might entail. I better start being better.
More paint got on me than him. He managed to acquire a pink nose in the process; as well as a tinted tail. I looked like I had bathed in Pepto Bismol. Pressing his paint covered paw onto the canvas; I realized that this was an idea not meant for dogs who lack recent manicures. Each ‘bloom’ was crowned with suspicious horns, thanks to long toenails. He bounced, flopped, licked, and wagged his bushy tail all over that canvas, and all over me and Sugar too.
Sugar decided that the blooms just wouldn’t ‘do’, so she painted big circles over the horns, and called them roses. This is when I just let her go with it. She had fun, and that’s all that matters. She made a rose garden ‘Sugar style’, and said that she was gonna hang it in her room. So it all worked out. Crue was happy too, being the center of attention. He’s probably gonna be less excited about his upcoming toenail clipping, though.
We didn’t get irises, but we got something even better... dog licks, lopsided roses, and a whole bunch of laughter.
