One of the premier football programs in Louisiana has a new head coach. Todd Garvin has been named head football coach of the West Monroe Rebels. Garvin was the head coach at Ouachita previously and had led Ouachita to a win over West Monroe last season. He played at Ouachita and was previously an assistant at West Monroe.
Ouachita has promoted their defensive coordinator, Benjy Lewis, to head coach.
"Our biggest goal is to see how our installations on offense and defense are accepted. We are breaking in a new quarterback, a new offensive run scheme and defensive scheme completely. I obviously also want to stay healthy. My personal observation will be on what players are going to be the type of players that will work hard enough day in and day out to get the Demons back to the levels we displayed under Coach Shane Smith."
--- Franklinton head football coach Nick Saltaformaggio.
Spring Game: May 19 at Newman
"Spring for us on offense is all about finding the right combination on the offensive line. We lost three starters and we have about 4-5 guys competing for those spots. We like what we have returning in the backfield and receiver. On defense we need to develop depth on the dline and sort out the linebacker position. We feel we have several guys that can start at linebacker." --- Pine head football coach Bradley Seal.
Spring Game: May 11 at St Helena
"We lost 21 of 22 starters from last year's team, so we are young and we are inexperienced. 42 players this year, only 10 are back form last year's team (Kaiden Williams, defensive lineman, is the only returning starter) and Rhett Anderson, quarterback saw significant playing time with varsity last year at quarterback when the game was in control. We will play every sixth and seventh grader on at least one side of the ball in the spring game to get them some experience."
---Franklinton Junior High head football coach Andy Creel
"Our goal in the spring is to install a new offense, become physically tougher on both sides of the ball and learn how to be better teammates. We had a big senior class, but I feel like we have some kids who are sophomores going to be juniors who can fill those spots. Our quarterback was also a senior so we are working two new guys. Tyriq Bell who started at wingback last year. Also, Joshua Fox who started on defense at linebacker last year. Both will see playing time in the spring game."
--- Varnado head football coach Adam Brumfield.
Spring Game: May 16 at Springfield
"Will be good for us to play established programs. Our offensive line is intact from last year but we're trying to find running backs lost to graduation. Our quarterback is back but we have guys stepping up doing a great job for us. Guys have stepped up in backfield roles and we're two deep there. Good to have depth. On defense most of our secondary is back and guys have really good attitudes. I'm excited to see what they'll do against those teams."
---Bowling Green head football coach Jason Johnson.
Spring Game: Will play two of either West Lincoln, Salem or Bogue Chitto. May 12th at West Lincoln High (MS) Spring jamboree.
"We are trying to establish a culture of having spring football. We want to see a lot of kids and see what they can do."
--- Pearl River head football coach Eric Collins. Spring Game: May 11th at home vs Bay High (MS)
"Main goal is trying to find who can block/tackle for us. We got lots of kids out so find depth will be a priority. Finding OL/DL will be next issue, got lot of bodies but question marks there. Quarterback position will be new with Jeremy Franklin stepping in but Christian Smith and Derrian Martin provides leadership for us at RB. Defense is led by six seniors with experience. They will be heart of a young team. Expectations still the same when it comes to Amite, Superdome aspirations."
---Amite head football coach Zephaniah Powell.
